The Sonyashnyk Dance Club was formed in September 2016 and incorporated as a non profit organization in February 2019.
The Club was started by a group of individuals driven by thier love of Ukrainian culture and dance. The desire to continue Ukrainian dancing and learn more about Ukrainian culture led ti the passion of promoting the culture through music and dance by sharing it with the community.
The group participates in many events held by the Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society and other Central Alberta Community Activities, such as Canada Day, Alberta Culture Days, 2019 Winter Games and many senior complexes, local schools as well as weddings and anniversaries. The group has attended competitions at Vegreville Pysanka Festival, Yalenka Southern Alberta Ukrainian Dance and Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Festival.
Sonyashnyk takes pride in the culture and passion to be active in the community, sharing our joy of dance, love of music and the added benefits of exercise. Anyone is welcome to join as we showcase the stunning display of costume and dance from many regions of the Ukraine.
